PROVENANCE: Private Collection, Paris Sakai Kobu is a Toki Prefecture Living national treasure and is well now for his Kobu-Shino glaze that exudes a soft, ethereal appearance. Sakai is well exhibited and published throughout Japan and his creative addition to the Mino tradition of Shino is showcased in this chawan. Sakai’s development of his unique Kobu-Shino has played an important role in the contemporary Shino scene and his work is influencing the style of a whole new generation of potters.
