Koro or Incense Burner with wooden Lid
Stoneware, softly segmented form with dappled blue and green yuteki tenmoku glaze, the domed wooden lid carved with holes an set with a polished stone finial, impressed maker's mark. Together with a signed wooden Box.

PROVENANCE: The T.F.G. Jones Collection of Japanese Ceramics.
BIOGRPAHY: Sasaki was born in Okayama and apprenticed under a master of Tenmoku Kimura Morikazu for eight years while attending the Kyoto Ceramic Research Institute. He established his own kiln in Fukui in 1979. He is considered one of the masters of Tenmoku working today, regularly exhibiting at the Nihon Dento Kogei Ten - National Traditional Crafts Exhibition - and since 1996 he has had more than 30 private exhibitions with Takashimaya, one of Japan’s premier Department Stores.
