BIOGRAPHY: Kaneta Masanao is an 8th generation Hagi potter. Whilst using the ancient Hagi tradition, Kaneta's training as a sculptural artist has led to a highly sculptural approach to his work using the distinctive kurinuki technique of carving and scooping out forms from a solid block of clay to produce boldly-cut forms. Many of his works are rendered as mountainous forms in creamy white glazes with pink and purple yohen kiln effects. Kaneta's work has been shown in many museum exhibitions in Japan, and features in public collections including the National Museum of Modern Art amongst many others both in Japan and abroad.
