For Maak’s latest auction dedicated to modern and contemporary Japanese ceramics, Maak has collaborated with the respected Tokyo gallery Mitochu Koeki Company. Mitochu Koeki have long specialised in handling the very best twentieth century and contemporary works of Japanese ceramics, as well as other craft works. Maak and Mitochu Koeki have used their extensive connections to bring together an intriguing range of high quality works from private collections in Japan, the US and the UK by some of the leading modern and contemporary masters of Japan, fulfilling a shared ambition to promote a global market for modern and contemporary Japanese ceramics.

Phillips and Maak have come together to present an important selection of works from the seminal collection of International Studio Ceramics of the late Dr. John P Driscoll, New York. The Art of Fire - Selections from the Collection of Dr. John P Driscoll will celebrate Driscoll's cultural legacy and offer some 160 highlight lots from his significant collection. The auction will take place at Phillips Berkeley Square on 10 November 2021.

The latest Modern + Contemporary Ceramics auction marks 10 years of Maak auctions and the 24th since the inaugural sale in May 2011. In keeping with our focus on bringing the very finest works to market, the sale includes many highlights, including two outstanding Vessels by Magdalene Odundo from an important International Collection.
The Spring Auction also includes some 40 works from ‘The Chestnut Gallery Collection’, a personal collection from the original owners of the renowned gallery in Bourton-on-the-Water, Gloucestershire. The extensive collection includes a fine group of works by Lucie Rie and superb examples by John Ward, John Maltby, Peter Beard and David Leach amongst others.
With over 300 lots on offer by the leading names in studio ceramics we look forward to seeing as many of our clients as possible at the Gallery Viewing.

FiredUp4 Charity Auction
1 October - 19 November 2020
FiredUp4 celebrates the work of an impressive group of the UK’s leading ceramic and visual artists in an innovative campaign to fundraise for the provision of pottery studios providing access to young people through the Onside Youth Zone network. Instigated and led by leading ceramicist and Onside Ceramic Ambassador, Kate Malone MBE, this exhibition and auction brings together 32 uniquely crafted pieces each created out of 3kg of clay.
Maak is delighted to be hosting the online auction. Bidding will open from the launch on 1 October, concluding on 19 November. All proceeds will go towards equipping two pottery studios and training and supplying staff for one year, in two Youth Zones in the North West. Eventually, the hope is to raise enough funds to reach as many young people as possible.

Bidders came from around the globe making it another hugely successful auction for Maak with an 88% sold rate, a hammer total of £139,140 and 115% of lots sold by value against the mid estimate.
