Large Mashiko Jar
Stoneware, layered bands of persimmon, white and tenmoku glazes with running green brushed marks, impressed maker's mark. Together with a signed wooden Box.

PROVENANCE: The T.F.G. Jones Collection of Japanese Ceramics. BIOGRAPHY: Sakuma is a fourth generation Mashiko potter and current master of the Sakum Totaro Kiln. His grandfather was Sakuma Totaro, the great friend of Hamada Shoji. Fujia studies art at Nagoya University of Art before returning to Mashiko to work at the family kiln. Sakuma uses the traditional Mashiko materials in a fresh and dynamic way.
